Biography
Representative from Mississippi; born in Surry County, N.C., February 6, 1805; member of the State house of commons in 1832; moved to Mississippi and settled in Pontotoc, Pontotoc County; contested the election of Samuel J. Gholson to the Twenty-fifth Congress, and the election was set aside by the House; subsequently elected as a Whig to fill the vacancy caused by this action (May 30, 1838-March 3, 1839); died on May 25, 1890.Courtesy of Biographical Directory of the United States Congress
